Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Deenly (the App) handles your data. By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Data We Collect
Location
If you grant location permission, the App reads your GPS coordinates via the device location service to calculate prayer times, determine Qibla direction, and find nearby mosques. Location is processed in memory for these calculations and cached locally on your device (refreshed automatically when you move more than approximately 250 metres). You can also set your location manually — the manually entered location is stored locally on your device. Location data is never transmitted to our servers.
Local storage
Deenly stores the following data on your device using the system's key-value storage (SharedPreferences / NSUserDefaults). None of this data is uploaded to external servers by Deenly:
Language and region settings (app language, device language)
Theme preference (dark or light mode)
Haptic feedback setting
Favourite Quran verses
Last-viewed prayer times, location, and address
Location source preference (GPS or manual)
Daily verse and last listened verse key
Last opened Surah number and Quran Ask session history
Ask Deenly submission count (to manage usage limits)
Last viewed Asma ul-Husna index
Prayer notification preferences (enabled/disabled per prayer, alert type)
Missed prayer data (date from which tracking began, per-prayer counts)
Tasbih items and selected tasbih set
Store review usage metric (to avoid repeated review prompts)
Selected meal calculation method
Verse commentary preferences
Ask Deenly (AI feature)
When you use the Ask Deenly feature, your typed or dictated question text and relevant context (your app language code and, if you are asking about a specific verse, the verse key) are sent to a configured AI provider to generate a response. This data leaves your device only when you actively submit a question. Voice input is processed on-device by the operating system's speech recognition service before the text is sent.
Quran audio
Audio recitations stream directly from Quran.com servers. No audio data is stored or uploaded by Deenly.
In-app purchases
Support purchases (one-time or subscription) are processed entirely by Apple App Store or Google Play Billing. Deenly does not receive or store your payment card details or billing address.
Home screen widgets
If you add a Deenly widget to your home screen, the App shares current prayer time data with the widget using the operating system's widget mechanism (home_widget). This data stays on your device.
2. How We Use Your Data
To calculate and display accurate prayer times and Qibla direction for your location
To find and display nearby mosques on a map
To deliver scheduled local notifications for prayer times, daily verse, and other reminders
To stream Quran audio recitations and provide verse translations
To generate AI-powered responses in the Ask Deenly feature
To personalise your experience (language, theme, last-listened verse, favourites)
To track and help you complete missed prayers at your own pace
To power home screen widgets with up-to-date prayer time information
To process support purchases through the respective app store
To calculate zakat using live gold and silver market prices
3. Permissions Requested
Location (optional)
Used for prayer times, Qibla direction, and nearby mosques. You can deny this permission and enter your location manually instead.
Notifications (optional)
Used to deliver local reminders for prayer times, daily verse, and hadith. You can disable individual notifications or all notifications from device Settings.
Microphone (optional)
Used only for voice input in the Ask Deenly feature. Speech is processed on-device by the operating system and converted to text before any data is sent to an AI provider. The microphone is never accessed without your explicit action.
Maps (optional)
Used to display nearby mosques on the in-app map view.
4. Third-Party Services
Deenly uses the following external services. Each is governed by its own privacy policy.
Aladhan API (api.aladhan.com) — prayer time calculations based on your coordinates and calculation method
Quran.com API — Quran text, verse-by-verse translations, and audio recitation streaming
OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — location data is used to query nearby mosque data from this open database
CoinGecko API (api.coingecko.com) — live gold and silver prices used by the zakat calculator
Apple App Store and Google Play Billing — in-app support purchases
Configured AI provider — Ask Deenly question processing; receives your question text, language code, and optional verse key
Google Fonts — the Inter typeface is loaded from Google's servers on the web version of this page
5. Retention, Security & Choices
Retention
All data stored by Deenly remains on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the App. Prayer times are cached locally and refreshed automatically when your location changes by more than 250 metres. Third-party service retention is governed by each provider's own policy.
Security
Deenly takes reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure.
Your choices
Disable location: go to device Settings → Deenly → Location and deny or set to "Never"
Disable notifications: go to device Settings → Deenly → Notifications and turn them off, or use the in-app notification settings per prayer
Disable microphone: go to device Settings → Deenly → Microphone and deny access
Avoid AI processing: do not use the Ask Deenly feature
Remove all local data: clear app data in device Settings or uninstall the App
6. Children and Updates
Deenly is not intentionally designed to collect personal data from children below applicable age thresholds. If you believe a child has provided data through the App, please contact us.
This policy may be updated at any time. The updated version will be published on this page with a new date. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
